PCAF has partnered with Smiling Mind to bring you this specially curated session open to all Permanent Care and Adoptive Families at no cost. This workshop focuses on the mental well-being of children. Discover effective strategies to navigate common challenges such as friendship dynamics, emotional regulation, and fostering resilience. Our aim is to empower parents and carers with the knowledge and confidence to support their children's mental fitness and emotional well-being. Hope to see you there! Speaker: Therese Sheedy 

Speaker: Therese Sheedy, Smiling Mind

Therese is an in-house Psychologist at Smiling Mind. She is a nationally registered psychologist with over 25 years experience. Therese has a Masters Degree in Applied Positive Psychology and certificates in Positive Psychology Coaching, Positive Psychology in Education and Mindfulness-based emotional balance. After using mindfulness in counselling therapy for many years she decided to become a trained meditation teacher. has worked across many areas of the education sector including The Department of Education and with the Catholic Education Office. She has worked in catholic, independent and government schools and corporate organisations focusing on building resilience, wellbeing, and mindfulness-based practices and strategies to promote holistic mental health and wellbeing for adults and children.

Whether you’re a prospective family, a new family or an established family, we have brought together information and resources to help navigate and respond to different stages of your family’s permanent care and adoption journey.

Advocacy

Permanent care, kinship care and adoptive families are an often hidden and under-supported group. They care for some of the most vulnerable children in our community.  We often hear from parents and carers that raising children from permanent care, kinship care and adoption backgrounds is rewarding, but that many families also experience a range of challenges. Families deserve to have their voices heard by those who make decisions on behalf of children.
