An Education Forum for Carers _ Raising Expectations

This is a free event – open to all carers of children and young people in Victoria, including kinship, foster and permanent care/adoptive parents

The forum aims to assist carers  to support the learning  and education needs of the young people they care for by:

  • Informing carers of recent  changes and increased support in the Victorian schools environment
  • Providing information on education related services and supports, and
  • Offering networking opportunities and to share experiences

The forum will be opened by Gill Callister, Secretary, Department of Education and Training.  It will include:

  • Speakers  on Student Support Services from the Department of Education and Training and Student Wellbeing from the Catholic Education Office
  • An education panel with representatives from the LOOKOUT Education Support Centres, Navigator, the Victorian
  • Aboriginal Education Association and other  DET initiatives
  • A support panel with speakers from Grandparents Advisor Line/Centrelink, Permanent Carers Helpline, FCAV Carer Support Service, Kinship Carer Support Service and a representative from International Social Service.

Lunch will be provided.

Need financial support to get to the forum?

If you are a foster carer or kinship carer with a statutory order and need financial support to attend, you can access  a financial subsidy through the Carer KaFE initiative.
